Possible Causes
Clogged brew basket or paper filter, Drip-stop valve stuck closed, Excessive coffee grounds causing overflow, Internal overflow sensor or tray switch activated
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker. Hot coffee and steam may be present; allow it to cool before opening the lid.
- Check for overflow: Open the top lid and inspect the brew basket. If it is filled with water and grounds, carefully remove it and empty into a sink.
- Clean brew basket and drip-stop: Rinse the basket thoroughly, paying attention to the bottom outlet and drip-stop plunger. Remove any paper filter fragments or compacted grounds.
- Use correct grind and amount: For Calphalon drip coffee makers, use medium grind and do not exceed the maximum scoop markings. Overly fine espresso grind can clog the basket.
- Inspect carafe spout: Ensure the carafe lid is properly installed and the spout is not blocked, which can cause backup into the basket.
- Dry internal overflow area: If water has leaked inside the base, tip the unit slightly (while unplugged) and dry any accessible moisture with a towel. Allow several hours to air dry.
- If E06 persists with no visible overflow: The internal overflow sensor or tray switch may be stuck or damaged and may need replacement by a technician.
