Possible Causes
Water reservoir not seated correctly, Reservoir level sensor not detecting water, Debris on reservoir sensor contacts, Faulty reservoir presence microswitch on base
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker before inspecting or moving parts. Allow any hot surfaces to cool.
- Check reservoir seating: Remove the water reservoir, empty it, rinse, then firmly reseat it on the base. Make sure it clicks or sits flat with no wobble.
- Clean sensor contacts: On many Farberware models, there are small metal contacts or a plastic post under the reservoir. Wipe both the base contacts and the bottom of the reservoir with a soft cloth slightly dampened with white vinegar, then dry thoroughly.
- Verify water level: Fill the reservoir at least to the minimum fill line. Some models will show E1 if the level is too low for the selected brew size.
- Test the microswitch: With the unit unplugged, gently press the reservoir area down and listen/feel for a faint click from the presence switch. If there is no click or the error persists, the reservoir presence microswitch or level sensor assembly may be faulty and should be replaced.
- Reset the unit: Unplug for 5 minutes, then plug back in and try a small brew cycle with the reservoir properly seated.
