Possible Causes
Open or shorted NTC temperature sensor, Loose wiring harness to sensor, Corroded connector on control board, Failed main control PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker before opening any panels. Internal components can remain hot after use.
- Power reset: Unplug the unit for 10 minutes to clear any transient error, then plug back in and attempt a small brew.
- Check for moisture: Inspect around the base and control panel for signs of water intrusion. If the unit has been splashed or overfilled, allow it to dry for 24 hours before retrying.
- Inspect wiring (advanced users): If you can safely remove the bottom cover, look for a small sensor clipped to the heater or warming plate with two thin wires. Check for broken insulation, loose connectors, or burnt spots. Reseat any loose connectors.
- Replace NTC sensor if faulty: If the sensor is visibly damaged or tests open/short with a multimeter, it should be replaced with a compatible Farberware NTC sensor. If replacing the sensor does not clear E3, the main control board may need replacement.
