Safety first: Ensure good ventilation when running initial cycles.
- Initial cleaning: Wash the carafe, lid, and brew basket with warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly.
- Run rinse cycles: Run 2–3 full brew cycles with plain water (no coffee) to flush the system.
- Optional vinegar cycle: Run one cycle with a 1:1 vinegar and water solution, then 2 cycles with clean water to remove any residual odors.
- Monitor smell: If a strong burning or electrical smell persists after several cycles, unplug the unit and have it inspected for overheating components.
