Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the machine before reaching into the brew area. Moving parts can cause injury.
Step 1 – Remove and clean the brew group (if user-removable):
- Open the service door and remove the drip tray and used coffee grounds container.
- Remove the brew group according to the user manual.
- Rinse the brew group thoroughly under warm water, moving the piston and screens to remove compacted coffee.
- Allow it to dry and reinstall it firmly until it clicks into place.
Step 2 – Clear any obstructions:
- Check the interior of the machine where the brew group sits for loose coffee grounds or foreign objects.
- Vacuum or brush out debris that could block the brew group movement.
Step 3 – Reset the machine:
- Reinstall the drip tray and grounds container.
- Plug the machine back in and power on; allow it to perform its startup cycle.
Step 4 – Advanced checks:
- If Error 3 persists, the drive motor or gears may be damaged.
- With the housing removed (unplug first), inspect the brew drive gear train for broken teeth or misalignment.
- Check the brew group position microswitch or encoder for loose wiring or misalignment.
Step 5 – Replace faulty parts:
- Replace the brew group if it is mechanically seized or cracked.
- Replace the drive motor or gear set if they are stripped or not turning.
- Position sensors should be replaced or adjusted if they do not detect end positions correctly.
