Machine displays 'Empty grounds container' even when it is empty and reinserted

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Step 1 – Properly reset container:

  • With the machine on, remove the drip tray and grounds container.
  • Wait 10 seconds, then reinsert both fully until they click.

Step 2 – Clean sensor area:

  • Clean the area where the container slides in; remove coffee residues.

Step 3 – Power cycle:

  • Turn the machine off and unplug for 5 minutes, then restart.

Step 4 – Inspect container and sensor (advanced):

  • Check the container for a broken plastic tab that actuates the sensor; replace container if damaged.
  • With housing removed (unplug first), test the sensor or microswitch and replace if faulty.
