Possible Causes
Thermostat or thermal fuse tripped, Scale buildup in thermoblock causing localized overheating, Stuck relay on main PCB keeping heater on, Blocked water path through thermoblock
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Immediately switch off and unplug the coffee maker. Allow it to cool for at least 45 minutes.
This error indicates the heating system exceeded safe temperature.
- Check for scale: If the machine has not been descaled recently, run a full descaling cycle using a Severin-approved descaler according to the user manual.
- Inspect ventilation: Ensure the machine is not placed in a confined space and that ventilation slots are not blocked.
- Reset thermal cut-out (if accessible): Some Severin models have a manual-reset thermostat on the thermoblock. With the unit unplugged and cover removed (only if you are competent), press the small red or black reset button on the thermostat.
- Check for leaks: Look for signs of water leakage onto the heater or wiring, which can cause overheating and short circuits.
- If E03 returns quickly: The thermostat, thermal fuse, or main PCB heater relay may be defective and should be replaced by a professional.
