Vacuum rapidly pulses on and off when trigger is held; no obvious code on older models, or alternating filter/airway icons on newer models.

Possible Causes

Severely clogged filter, Blocked cyclone assembly, Obstruction in wand or cleaner head, Bin overfilled beyond MAX line

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off and remove the battery before clearing blockages or removing filters.

  • Empty the bin: Open the bin flap and empty all debris. Tap gently to loosen compacted dust.
  • Clean filters: Remove and wash the pre-motor (and post-motor if applicable) filters as per Dyson instructions. Allow to dry fully for 24 hours.
  • Check for blockages: Detach the wand and cleaner head. Look through the wand, bin inlet, and head airway for obstructions and clear them.
  • Inspect cyclone: If fine dust has packed into the cyclone shrouds, gently tap the cyclone over a bin to dislodge dust. Do not immerse the cyclone in water unless your model manual explicitly allows it.
  • Reassemble and test: Once everything is clean and dry, reassemble and test. Persistent pulsing after thorough cleaning may indicate a failing motor or pressure sensor requiring professional service.
