Possible Causes
Post-motor HEPA filter saturated with fine dust, Filter never replaced after long-term use, Filter housing seal damaged, Use without pre-motor filter causing overload of HEPA filter
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Power off and remove the battery. Do not operate the vacuum with the rear filter removed except briefly for testing.
- Access the rear filter: On models like V10, V11, V15, twist the rear HEPA filter counter‑clockwise and pull it off the motor housing.
- Inspect: Look for heavy dust buildup, discoloration, or deformation of the pleats. If the filter is heavily clogged or damaged, replacement is recommended.
- Cleaning (if allowed): Many Dyson HEPA filters are washable. Rinse under cold water only, gently tapping to remove dust. Do not use brushes or detergents. Check your specific model manual; if labeled non‑washable, replace instead.
- Dry thoroughly: Air‑dry for at least 24 hours until completely dry.
- Reinstall: Align the tabs and twist clockwise until it locks. Run the vacuum and check if the filter warning clears. If not, there may be a sensor or motor airflow issue requiring service.
