Hoover H-Free Main Battery Pack Undervoltage Protection

Cordless vacuum will not start, red LED flashes once repeatedly when trigger is pulled

Possible Causes

Battery pack deeply discharged, Battery pack at end of life, Faulty battery management PCB in pack

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Switch the vacuum OFF, remove all accessories, and keep fingers away from the brush bar. Never open the battery pack casing.

  • Check charger and contacts: Place the Hoover H-Free on its original charger or plug in the removable battery. Ensure the charger is firmly in the wall socket and the LED on the charger lights. Inspect the battery and vacuum contacts for dust or oxidation; gently clean with a dry cloth.
  • Attempt a full recovery charge: Leave the battery on charge for at least 4–6 hours, even if LEDs stop flashing earlier. Some deeply discharged packs need extended time to recover.
  • Test after charge: Refit the battery and try the trigger. If the E1 pattern (single red flash) persists and runtime is only a few seconds or zero, the pack is likely worn out.
  • Try another outlet/charger: If available, test with a known-good Hoover H-Free charger. If the battery charges normally on another charger, replace your original charger.
  • Replace battery pack: If the vacuum still shows E1 and will not start after a full charge, replace the complete Hoover H-Free lithium-ion battery pack. Do not attempt to open or repair the pack.
