Possible Causes

Hair or string wrapped around brush roll, Debris jammed in brush end bearings, Stripped brush roll drive gear, Overheated brush motor in floor nozzle

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF the vacuum and remove the battery pack before working on the brush head.

  • Remove the brush roll: Flip the floor nozzle over. Release the brush roll cover (usually via latches or screws). Lift out the brush roll.
  • Clear obstructions: Cut away hair, threads, and fibers from the brush bristles and end caps. Rotate the end caps by hand; they should spin freely. Remove any debris lodged in the bearing areas.
  • Inspect the drive system: Check the drive gear or belt area (depending on model). Look for stripped plastic teeth, melted belt, or broken couplers. If damaged, the brush roll or gear set must be replaced.
  • Clean the nozzle air path: While the brush is out, inspect the nozzle’s internal air channel for clogs and clear them.
  • Reassemble and test: Reinstall the brush roll, ensuring it is seated correctly and the cover is fully latched. Reinstall the battery and test. If E4 returns immediately and the brush does not attempt to turn, the brush motor or nozzle PCB may be faulty.
