Possible Causes

Deeply discharged Li-ion battery pack, Failed battery protection PCB, Faulty battery temperature sensor (NTC) on pack, Defective main control PCB misreading battery voltage

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn the vacuum OFF, remove it from the charger, and detach the battery pack (if removable). Never open or puncture a Li‑ion battery pack.

  • Step 1 – Check charger and contacts: Inspect the charging dock or adapter and the vacuum’s battery contacts for dust, burns, or corrosion. Clean gently with a dry cloth or cotton swab. Do not use liquids.
  • Step 2 – Attempt a recovery charge: Place the vacuum on the original Philips charger. Leave it on charge for at least 3–4 hours even if the indicator does not change immediately. Some packs need a slow recovery before normal charging resumes.
  • Step 3 – Test on another outlet/charger: If available, try a different wall outlet and, ideally, a known‑good Philips charger of the same model to rule out a bad adapter.
  • Step 4 – Check battery temperature: If the pack feels hot or very cold, let it return to room temperature (20–25 °C) for 1 hour, then try charging again. The protection circuit will block operation outside the safe range.
  • Step 5 – Inspect battery pack: If the pack is swollen, cracked, or smells burnt, do not use it. Replace the battery pack with a genuine Philips replacement.
  • Step 6 – If E1 persists: The battery protection PCB or main control PCB may be faulty. At this point, replacement of the battery pack or main PCB is required; if you are not experienced with electronics, contact a Philips service center.
