Possible Causes
Defective Li-Ion battery pack BPS 18V, dirty or bent battery contacts in handle, damaged battery management system (BMS) board in battery, faulty main control PCB in motor unit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the battery pack from the vacuum before any inspection. Do not short battery terminals. If the pack is swollen, hot, or leaking, do not reuse it.
- Step 1 – Remove and reseat the battery: Slide the Severin 18V Li-Ion battery pack out of the handle or base. Inspect the contacts on both the battery and the vacuum for dust, hair, or oxidation. Clean gently with a dry cloth or a cotton swab lightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol. Let dry fully and reinstall the battery firmly until it clicks.
- Step 2 – Test with charger: Place the battery on the original Severin charging base or plug the charger into the wall mount station. Confirm that the charger LED behaves normally (steady or pulsing charge light). If the charger shows a fault or no lights, the battery or charger may be defective.
- Step 3 – Try a second battery (if available): If you have another compatible Severin battery pack, install it and check if E1 disappears. If the vacuum works with the second pack, the original battery pack is likely defective.
- Step 4 – Inspect battery contacts and wiring: With the battery removed, visually inspect the metal contacts inside the handle or base for bending, corrosion, or looseness. Do not insert metal tools into the contacts. If a contact is pushed in or bent, it may require professional adjustment or replacement of the contact block.
- Step 5 – If E1 persists: The main control PCB in the motor unit may not be reading the battery data line correctly. At this point, contact a Severin service center for testing of the BMS and main PCB. Do not attempt to open the battery pack housing yourself, as this can be hazardous and void the warranty.
