Possible Causes
Clogged pre-motor filter, blocked air vents on motor housing, worn motor bearings causing excess heat, operating on turbo mode with full dust container
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Remove the battery pack and allow the vacuum to cool for at least 30 minutes before inspection. Do not cover the vacuum while it is hot.
- Step 1 – Allow full cooling: Place the vacuum in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight. Ensure all vents are unobstructed while cooling.
- Step 2 – Clean all filters: Remove the dust container, pre-motor filter, and HEPA exhaust filter (if present). Tap off loose dust. If the filters are washable per the Severin manual, rinse them under lukewarm water without detergent. Squeeze out excess water gently and let them air-dry completely (24 hours) before reinstalling.
- Step 3 – Inspect air vents: Check the motor housing and side vents for lint or pet hair buildup. Use a soft brush or vacuum with another cleaner to remove debris from the vents.
- Step 4 – Reduce load: Empty the dust container fully and avoid using turbo mode continuously on thick carpets. Alternate between power levels to reduce heat buildup.
- Step 5 – Test operation: After full cooling and cleaning, reinstall the dry filters and battery. Run the vacuum on low power for several minutes. If E3 no longer appears, the issue was airflow-related. If the vacuum overheats quickly again, the motor bearings or internal cooling fan may be failing and the motor unit should be replaced by a qualified technician.
