Possible Causes
Dust cup not fully seated, Broken dust cup latch, Faulty bin presence microswitch, Misaligned actuator tab on dust cup
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Remove the battery before adjusting the dust cup or latch.
- 1. Remove and reinstall dust cup: Take off the dust cup completely and then reinstall it, ensuring it slides into place and clicks firmly. Check that the bottom door is fully closed.
- 2. Inspect latch and tabs: Look for cracked plastic around the latch or the small tab that actuates the bin sensor. If the tab is broken, the vacuum may not detect the bin.
- 3. Check for obstructions: Make sure no debris is trapped around the latch or sensor area that could prevent proper engagement.
- 4. Test bin sensor (if accessible): On some models, you can see a small switch or lever that the dust cup presses. With the battery removed, gently press this switch with a non‑metallic tool and listen for a click. Do not force it.
- 5. Replace dust cup or sensor: If the dust cup is damaged, replace it with a genuine Shark dust bin. If the cup is intact but the sensor does not respond, the bin sensor or associated wiring on the main PCB may need professional replacement.
