Possible Causes
Hair or string wrapped around brushroll, Obstruction in floor nozzle intake, Worn or seized brushroll end bearings, Faulty brushroll motor in the floor nozzle
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the vacuum and remove the battery before working on the floor nozzle or brushroll.
- 1. Remove the floor nozzle: Detach the motorized floor head from the wand or handheld unit.
- 2. Clear visible obstructions: Turn the nozzle upside down. Remove any large debris from the suction opening and side channels.
- 3. Clean the brushroll thoroughly: Cut away hair, threads, and fibers wrapped around the brushroll using scissors. Avoid cutting the bristles. Pay special attention to the ends near the bearing caps.
- 4. Remove brushroll (if removable): On many Shark DuoClean and PowerFins heads, you can unlock and lift out the brushroll(s). Pull them out, clean the entire length, and spin them by hand. They should rotate freely without grinding or sticking.
- 5. Inspect end caps and bearings: If the brushroll has removable end caps, pop them off and check for hair packed around the shafts. Clean thoroughly. If the bearings feel rough or seized, the brushroll assembly should be replaced.
- 6. Check brushroll motor drive: With the brushroll removed, briefly power the vacuum (battery installed) and switch to carpet/brush mode while holding the nozzle safely away from you. If the drive spindle does not spin or makes loud noises, the brushroll motor or internal gearbox is likely faulty and the entire floor nozzle assembly may need replacement.
