E5
Shark Battery Temperature Fault (Too Hot or Too Cold)

Battery indicator LEDs flash in an alternating or specific E5 pattern when trying to charge the Shark cordless vacuum battery

Possible Causes

Battery pack still hot from recent use, Charging in very cold environment, Faulty temperature sensor inside battery pack, Defective Shark charger or dock misreading temperature

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not attempt to cool or heat the battery using external heat sources, refrigerators, or freezers. This can damage the pack and create a fire risk.

  • 1. Allow the battery to cool or warm to room temperature: Remove the battery from the vacuum and place it on a non‑flammable surface at room temperature (18–25°C / 65–77°F) for at least 30–60 minutes.
  • 2. Retry charging: After the rest period, place the battery on the Shark charger or dock. Ensure the contacts align and the battery is fully seated. Check if the normal charging pattern appears.
  • 3. Inspect charger and contacts: Examine the charger contacts and battery terminals for dust or corrosion. Clean gently with a dry cloth. Verify the charger is plugged directly into a wall outlet (avoid power strips if possible).
  • 4. Test in a different location: Move the charger to a different room away from direct sunlight, heaters, or cold drafts. Extreme ambient temperatures can trigger temperature faults.
  • 5. Replace battery or charger if fault persists: If the E5 pattern continues at room temperature, the internal temperature sensor or protection circuit in the battery may be defective. Try a known‑good Shark charger if available. If only one battery shows the fault, replace that battery pack. If multiple batteries show the same fault on the same charger, replace the charger or contact Shark support.
