E4
Vax Battery Overtemperature / Overvoltage Protection

Cordless Vax vacuum stops and displays “E4” or a battery icon with a fault symbol; unit may not accept charge or stops charging prematurely.

Possible Causes

Battery pack overheated from extended high-power use, Blocked cooling vents around battery and motor, Faulty temperature sensor inside battery pack, Defective charger or docking station overcharging the pack

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: If the battery feels hot, do not attempt to charge it immediately. Place it on a non-flammable surface away from direct sunlight.

  • 1. Allow the battery to cool: Leave the battery removed from the vacuum for at least 30–60 minutes until it reaches room temperature.
  • 2. Check cooling vents: Inspect the main body and battery casing for blocked vents. Use a soft brush or dry cloth to remove dust from vent openings.
  • 3. Try charging again: Once cool, place the battery on the original Vax charger. Ensure the charger is on a hard, flat surface with good airflow. Observe the LED pattern and compare with the user manual.
  • 4. Avoid repeated overheating: Use lower power modes for general cleaning and avoid running the vacuum continuously on boost until the battery is fully drained.
  • 5. Test with another charger or battery (if available): If E4 appears only with one charger, the charger may be faulty. If it appears only with one battery, that pack may have an internal sensor fault.

If the battery repeatedly triggers E4 even when cool, discontinue use and replace the battery pack. Do not attempt to open or repair lithium-ion batteries.
