Possible Causes
Failed circulation pump motor, Jammed impeller due to debris, Faulty motor capacitor (if external), Wiring fault to circulation pump
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the dishwasher from the mains. Water may spill when hoses are removed.
- Confirm symptom: Start a program and listen after filling. If you hear only a low hum or nothing at all and the spray arms are not moving, the circulation pump is suspect.
- Check for blockages: Remove filters and inspect the sump for foreign objects that could jam the impeller.
- Access circulation pump: Lay the dishwasher on its back (with towels) and remove the bottom panel. The circulation pump is the larger motor attached to the sump, often combined with the heater.
- Inspect impeller: Disconnect the pump and check if the impeller turns freely by hand. Remove any debris.
- Check capacitor (if fitted): Some CDA pumps use an external start capacitor. A bulging or leaking capacitor should be replaced with the same rating.
- Electrical test: With the appliance unplugged, measure resistance across the pump terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
- Replace pump if faulty: Install a CDA-compatible circulation pump assembly, ensuring all seals and clamps are correctly fitted to prevent leaks.
