Possible Causes
Clogged drain filter in sump, Blocked drain hose or connection to sink siphon, Defective drain pump, Foreign object jammed in drain pump impeller
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dishwasher and turn off the water supply before servicing. Water may be hot; wear gloves.
- Clean the filters: Open the door, remove the lower basket, and twist out the coarse and fine filters from the sump. Rinse thoroughly under running water and remove any food debris or glass.
- Check the sump area: Shine a flashlight into the sump. Remove visible debris that could block the drain port.
- Inspect the drain hose: Pull the dishwasher out slightly and check that the drain hose is not kinked or crushed. Detach the hose from the sink trap or garbage disposer and flush it with water to clear blockages.
- Check sink connection: If recently installed to a garbage disposer, ensure the knockout plug in the disposer inlet was removed.
- Access the drain pump (experienced users): Lay the dishwasher carefully on its back (protect the floor). Remove the bottom panel to access the drain pump mounted on the sump. Disconnect power connectors, twist the pump counterclockwise, and remove it. Check for glass, bones, or labels in the impeller. If the impeller is damaged or the motor is seized, replace the pump.
Reassemble, restore power, and run a drain or quick program. If E2 returns, the drain pump or control board may require professional diagnosis.
