Possible Causes

Leak from circulation pump seal, Leak from inlet valve or hose connection, Cracked sump or tub, Faulty or stuck float switch in base tray

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the dishwasher and close the water supply tap immediately to prevent further flooding. Be prepared for water spillage when tilting the appliance.

  • Drain the base tray: Carefully pull the dishwasher out from the cabinet. Tilt it slightly backward or to one side over a towel to allow water to drain from the base tray. This may temporarily clear E4 but does not fix the leak source.
  • Inspect for visible leaks: Remove the bottom front panel. With a flashlight, inspect around the circulation pump, sump gasket, inlet valve, and hoses for mineral tracks or fresh water marks.
  • Check float switch: Locate the polystyrene or plastic float in the base tray and its microswitch. Ensure the float moves freely and is not stuck by grease or debris. Clean and dry the area.
  • Run a test with panels off: With the machine pulled out and panels removed, place towels underneath and run a short cycle while observing. Identify the exact leak point (e.g., pump seal, hose clamp, tub crack).
  • Replace leaking component: Tighten hose clamps if loose. If the circulation pump seal or sump is leaking, the affected assembly must be replaced.

Do not continue using the dishwasher with an active leak; this can damage flooring and electrical components. If the leak source is not obvious, contact a service technician.
