Possible Causes
Faulty diverter valve motor, Jammed diverter mechanism due to debris, Broken position sensor in diverter, Wiring issue between diverter and control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance and close the water tap.
- Check spray arms first: Remove and clean upper and lower spray arms. Blocked jets can mimic diverter problems. Rinse under water and clear holes with a toothpick.
- Inspect diverter assembly: Access the bottom of the dishwasher and locate the diverter valve attached to the sump or circulation pump outlet. Check for obvious damage or loose connectors.
- Listen for operation: During a wash cycle, you should hear periodic changes in spray sound as the diverter switches zones. If there is no change and E8 appears, the diverter may be stuck.
- Remove debris: If possible, detach the diverter housing and inspect for plastic fragments or food blocking the internal rotor. Clean thoroughly and reassemble.
Persistent E8 after cleaning usually requires replacement of the diverter valve assembly or control board, best handled by a technician.
