Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before working on the dryer. Surfaces may be hot; allow to cool.
Steps to resolve overheating:
- Clean the lint filter: Remove and thoroughly clean the lint screen. Wash with warm soapy water if coated with fabric softener residue; dry completely.
- Inspect exhaust duct: Pull the dryer away from the wall. Disconnect the vent hose. Check for lint buildup, crushed sections, or kinks. Clean the hose and wall vent fully and ensure good airflow to the outside.
- Check airflow at exhaust: Run the dryer (empty) with the vent hose disconnected (temporarily) to feel for strong airflow at the outlet. Weak airflow suggests internal blockage or blower issues.
- Test thermostats and thermal cut-out: Remove rear panel. Locate the high-limit thermostat and thermal fuse/cut-out on the heater housing. Test with a multimeter for continuity. Replace any open components.
- Inspect heater relay: On models with a PCB heater relay, check for burnt contacts or signs of overheating. If the relay is stuck closed or damaged, the main control board may need replacement.
If E02 returns after cleaning and replacing faulty thermostats, contact a qualified technician to check the control board and temperature sensors.
