Possible Causes
Broken or slipped drive belt, Seized drum roller or idler pulley, Faulty drive motor, Obstruction in drum or blower
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer before removing any panels.
Steps to check drum drive:
- Check drum movement: Try turning the drum by hand from inside. It should rotate smoothly. If it is very stiff or jammed, suspect a seized roller, idler, or foreign object.
- Inspect the belt: Remove the top panel and then the front panel to access the drum. Check if the belt is broken, off the motor pulley, or heavily worn. Replace if damaged.
- Examine idler pulley and rollers: Spin the idler pulley and drum support rollers by hand. They should turn freely without noise. Replace any that are stiff, noisy, or wobbling.
- Check for obstructions: Inspect the blower housing and drum edges for clothing, coins, or other objects that could jam rotation.
- Test the motor: With the belt removed, spin the motor shaft by hand. If stiff or noisy, the motor may be failing. Electrical tests (winding resistance, insulation) should be performed by a technician if you are not experienced.
