Reduced Drying Efficiency / Restricted Airflow
Dryer runs but takes much longer than usual to dry clothes
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Lint-clogged condenser or heat exchanger, Dirty moisture sensor bars, Blocked internal air ducts, Weak heat pump performance (heat pump models)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect mains power before cleaning internal components.
Steps to check and fix:
- Thoroughly clean filters and condenser: Clean the lint filter after every cycle. Remove the condenser and rinse until water runs clear. Let it dry before reinstalling.
- Clean moisture sensors: Wipe the metal sensor bars inside the drum with a cloth and white vinegar to remove residue.
- Inspect internal ducts: Remove panels to access ducts between drum, heater, and condenser. Vacuum out lint and dust.
- Check ambient conditions: Ensure the dryer is in a well-ventilated room within the recommended temperature range. Very cold rooms can reduce heat pump efficiency.
- Test with smaller load: Try a smaller load on a timed program. If drying time is still excessive, further diagnosis of heater or heat pump components may be needed.
