Possible Causes

Blocked condensate pump, Blocked drain hose to water tank, Failed condensate pump motor, Float switch stuck or defective in condensate tray

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect mains power. Be prepared for water spillage when opening the base or pump area.

Steps to check and fix:

  • Empty the water tank: Remove and fully empty the condensate tank. Ensure it is correctly seated when reinserted.
  • Clean the condenser and sump: Remove the condenser unit (if user-removable) and clean lint and debris. Check the sump area below for lint clogs and remove them.
  • Inspect the pump area: On many Balay heat pump and condenser dryers, the pump is located in the base. Remove the lower front kick panel or rear panel to access it. Check for lint or foreign objects blocking the pump inlet.
  • Check the float switch: Ensure the float in the condensate tray moves freely and is not stuck by lint. Clean and rinse the tray.
  • Test the pump: With the dryer unplugged, disconnect the pump and check coil resistance. Then, if safe and you are qualified, briefly power the pump with an external source to confirm operation. Replace the condensate pump if it does not run or is noisy and seized.
  • Reassemble and test: Refit all parts, reconnect power, and run a short program. If E04 returns, the control board pump driver or level sensing circuit may be faulty and require professional service.
