Dryer trips the household RCD/RCBO (earth leakage device) when started.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not repeatedly reset the RCD without finding the cause. Unplug the dryer before inspection.
Visual checks:
- Inspect the mains cable for cuts or crushing; replace if damaged.
- Check inside the dryer for signs of water ingress or dampness, especially around the heater and motor.
Insulation checks:
- With components disconnected, use a multimeter to check resistance between heater terminals and chassis; any low reading indicates leakage and the heater should be replaced.
- Similar checks can be done on the motor windings to chassis.
Note: A proper insulation resistance tester (megger) is recommended and should be used by a qualified technician.
