Possible Causes

Open heating element, Failed high-limit thermostat on heater housing, Faulty thermal cut-out (TCO), Loose or burnt heater wiring connector

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect the dryer from the mains. Heating components can remain hot after use; allow the machine to cool fully.

Access the heater assembly:

  • Remove the rear panel (on most Belling vented and condenser dryers) to expose the heater housing mounted to the back of the drum.
  • Locate the heating element, high-limit thermostat(s), and thermal cut-out mounted on or near the heater box.

Component checks:

  • Visual inspection: Look for burnt connectors, broken heater coils, or signs of overheating on the heater housing.
  • Test the heating element: With wires removed from the element terminals, use a multimeter on resistance (ohms). A healthy element will show a finite resistance (typically 20–60Ω). An open circuit (OL) means the element is blown and must be replaced.
  • Check thermostats and TCO: Test each thermostat and thermal cut-out for continuity. Any that read open circuit at room temperature should be replaced as a set with the heater where possible.
  • Inspect wiring: Tighten any loose spade connectors and replace any heat-damaged wiring with high-temperature rated cable.

Reassembly and test: Refit the rear panel, reconnect power, and run a timed heat cycle while monitoring for correct heating. If E02 persists, the main control PCB heater relay or temperature sensing circuit may be faulty and require professional diagnosis.
