Possible Causes

Broken or slipped drive belt, Seized drum roller or idler pulley, Weak motor start winding, Foreign object jamming drum

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the dryer before opening any panels.

  • Check drum rotation: Open the door and try to spin the drum by hand. If it will not move or is very stiff, a roller, idler, or object may be jamming it.
  • Inspect belt: Remove the top panel and look down at the drum. If the belt is loose, broken, or off the motor pulley, it must be replaced.
  • Check rollers and idler: Remove the front panel to access the drum support rollers and idler pulley. Spin each by hand; they should turn freely and quietly. Replace any that are noisy or seized.
  • Test motor: If the belt and rollers are good but the motor only hums, the motor may be failing and should be replaced.

Do not continue to run the dryer with a humming motor; this can overheat and damage the motor and wiring.
