Dryer makes loud thumping or banging noise, especially with heavy loads

Safety first: Disconnect power before opening the cabinet.

• Check load: Stop the dryer and redistribute the load. Very heavy items can cause temporary thumping.
• Inspect drum rollers: Remove the front panel and rotate the drum by hand. Watch the rollers; if they have flat spots or cause the drum to rise and fall, replace them.
• Check drum baffles: From inside the drum, press on each baffle (the plastic or metal lifters). Tighten or replace if loose.
• Inspect drum seam: Look for coins or small objects caught at the drum seam or felt seals and remove them.

Persistent banging after these checks may indicate a deformed drum or damaged cabinet, which should be evaluated by a technician.
