If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer. Overheating can be a fire hazard; do not continue using the dryer until the cause is corrected.
- Check and clean venting: Disconnect the exhaust hose from the back of the dryer. Run a short timed dry cycle with no load. If the dryer runs without E62 when vent is disconnected, the house vent is restricted and must be cleaned or repaired.
- Inspect lint buildup: Remove the rear panel and clean lint from around the heater housing, thermostats, and internal ducts.
- Test thermostats: Locate the cycling thermostat and high-limit thermostat on the heater housing. With power off, test continuity at room temperature. Replace any thermostat that is open when it should be closed.
- Check heater for ground fault: Measure resistance from each heater terminal to the metal heater housing. Any low resistance indicates a grounded element that can cause runaway heating; replace the heater assembly.
If E62 persists with clear venting and new thermostats/heater, the heater relay on the main control board may be stuck and the board should be replaced by a technician.
