Possible Causes
Clogged lint filter, Blocked exhaust duct or condenser, Overheated heater housing, Faulty thermal cut-out or thermostat
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer. Internal components may be hot; allow to cool before working.
- Clean lint filter: Remove the lint filter from the door opening. Thoroughly clean lint from both sides and the filter housing.
- Check exhaust path: For vented models, disconnect the exhaust hose and clear any lint buildup or kinks. For condenser/heat pump models, remove and rinse the condenser unit under running water, then dry completely before reinstalling.
- Inspect air channels: Remove front lower panel (if present) and vacuum lint from internal ducts, fan housing, and around the heater.
- Check thermostats and thermal cut-outs: With the rear panel removed, locate thermostats on the heater housing. Test for continuity with a multimeter. Replace any open (non-resettable) thermal fuse or thermostat that does not reset.
- Restart and monitor: After cleaning and reassembly, run a short cycle and monitor for normal airflow and temperature. If E3 returns, a sensor or control board fault may require professional service.
