Possible Causes
Failed drum drive motor, Faulty motor capacitor (on single-phase models), Jammed drum or seized drum bearings, Damaged motor wiring or connector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer. Moving parts can start unexpectedly if power is applied.
- Check drum movement: Open the door and rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly with moderate resistance. If it is very stiff or jammed, inspect for foreign objects between drum and cabinet or worn bearings.
- Listen for motor attempt: Start a cycle briefly (with panels in place) and listen for a humming sound without drum movement, which often indicates a failed start capacitor or jammed motor.
- Access motor and belt: Remove the top and rear panel. Inspect the drive belt for breakage or slipping. Replace if broken or heavily worn.
- Check motor capacitor: Locate the capacitor near the motor. After discharging safely, test capacitance with a meter. Replace if out of specification or visibly swollen.
- Inspect wiring: Ensure all motor connectors are tight and wires are not burned or cut.
- If E6 persists: A defective motor or control board drive circuit may be present. Replacement is more complex and often best handled by a technician.
