Possible Causes
Open heating element, Tripped or failed high-limit thermostat, Faulty NTC temperature sensor on heater housing, Burnt heater wiring or connector at main control PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer. Heating components can remain hot after use; allow the appliance to cool completely.
- Clean lint filters and condenser (if condenser/heat pump model): Remove and thoroughly clean the lint filter. For condenser models, remove the condenser unit and rinse it under running water. Blocked airflow can overheat and trip safety devices.
- Access the heater assembly: Remove the rear panel to access the heater housing on vented models, or the side/rear panel on condenser/heat pump Gram dryers. Locate the heating element, thermostats, and NTC sensor.
- Check heating element: Disconnect the element terminals and test for continuity with a multimeter. An open circuit indicates a failed element that must be replaced.
- Test thermostats and thermal cut-outs: Identify the high-limit thermostat and any one-shot thermal fuse on the heater housing. With the dryer unplugged, test for continuity. Replace any thermostat or fuse that is open.
- Inspect NTC sensor: The NTC (temperature sensor) is usually clipped to the heater housing or air duct. Check its connector and wiring. Measure its resistance at room temperature and compare with Gram specifications (typically around 5–20 kΩ depending on type). Replace if readings are out of range or intermittent.
- Check wiring and PCB: Inspect heater wiring for burnt connectors or melted insulation. Reseat the heater connector on the main control PCB. If all components test good, the heater relay or triac on the PCB may be faulty and require board replacement.
