Possible Causes
Blown one-shot thermal fuse on heater housing, Tripped safety thermostat on drum or exhaust, Severe airflow restriction causing overheat, Shorted heater causing fuse operation
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer and allow it to cool. Do not bypass thermal fuses or thermostats.
- Check airflow components: Before replacing any safety device, clean the lint filter, exhaust duct, condenser, and all air passages to remove restrictions that may have caused overheating.
- Locate thermal fuse: On many Gram dryers, a one-shot thermal fuse is mounted on the heater housing or exhaust duct. Access it by removing the rear or side panel.
- Test fuse and thermostats: With a multimeter, check continuity across the thermal fuse and safety thermostats. Replace any that are open.
- Inspect heater for shorts: Disconnect the heater and test for continuity between each terminal and the metal casing. Any continuity to ground indicates a shorted element, which must be replaced before fitting a new fuse.
- Replace failed components: Install new thermal fuse and any faulty thermostats using the correct Gram parts. Ensure they are mounted firmly against the metal surface for proper sensing.
- Test operation: Reassemble the dryer, restore power, and run a monitored test cycle to confirm normal heating and no recurrence of E15.
