• Check door alignment: Inspect the door hinges and strike plate. If the door sags or does not align with the lock opening, adjust the hinges or strike so the latch enters the lock cleanly.
• Listen for lock operation: With the dryer reassembled, plug it in and start a cycle while listening near the door. A faint click indicates the lock is trying to engage. No sound may indicate a failed solenoid or no power to the lock.
• Inspect lock mechanism: Remove the front panel to access the door lock. Check for broken plastic parts, foreign objects, or wear that prevents the latch from moving. Replace the door lock assembly if damaged.
• Check wiring: Verify that the lock connector is firmly seated and that wires are not pinched or broken.
• Test after replacement: Install a new Gram door lock assembly if needed, reassemble, and test for proper locking and unlocking during a cycle.
