Possible Causes

Obstruction between drum and front felt seal, Seized idler pulley or drum roller, Failed motor start capacitor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the dryer before any disassembly.

Check for obstructions:

  • Open the door and inspect the gap between the drum and front panel. Look for trapped clothing, bra wires, or foreign objects.
  • Gently pull out any visible obstruction. Do not force the drum.

Inspect drum supports:

  • Remove the top and, if necessary, the front panel to access the drum front support and idler pulley.
  • Check that the idler pulley and any drum rollers spin freely. Replace any that are seized or noisy.

Motor capacitor:

  • Locate the motor start capacitor and visually inspect for swelling or leaks.
  • Test capacitance and replace if out of specification.

Reassemble and test. If the motor still only hums and cannot start the drum even when spun by hand (with power off), the motor itself may be defective and should be replaced.
