Possible Causes
Failed drum drive motor, Open or weak motor start capacitor, Broken or slipping drive belt, Faulty motor relay on main control PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the dryer from the mains before removing any panels.
- Check drum movement: With the dryer unplugged and door open, try turning the drum by hand. It should rotate smoothly with moderate resistance. If seized or very stiff, suspect motor or drum bearings.
- Inspect drive belt: Remove the top cover and rear panel (on most New World dryers) to access the drum. Check if the belt is broken, off the pulley, or heavily worn. Replace if damaged.
- Test motor capacitor: Locate the motor start/run capacitor near the motor. Discharge it safely, then test with a capacitance meter. Replace if out of tolerance or bulging.
- Check motor connections: Ensure all motor connectors are firmly seated and not heat-damaged. Inspect the motor windings for burnt smell or discoloration.
- Control board relay: If the motor, belt, and capacitor are good, inspect the main control PCB for a stuck or burnt motor relay. Replace the PCB if the relay is defective and not serviceable individually.
