Possible Causes
Broken or jammed drive belt, Seized drum rollers or rear bearing, Failed motor start capacitor, Foreign object wedged between drum and cabinet
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer immediately to avoid motor damage.
Step-by-step checks:
- Manual rotation test: Open the door and try to rotate the drum by hand. If it is very stiff or stuck, suspect mechanical obstruction or seized supports.
- Inspect for obstructions: Remove the top and front panels. Look for clothing, coins, or other objects trapped at the front felt seal or rear bulkhead.
- Check belt condition: Verify the belt is intact and properly tensioned around the drum and motor pulley. Replace if broken or heavily worn.
- Examine rollers/bearing: Spin drum rollers or rear bearing by hand. Replace any that are noisy, rough, or seized.
- Test start capacitor: Locate the capacitor near the motor. If it is bulged or leaking, replace it with the exact Vedette-specified value.
Note: Do not continue to run the dryer with a humming motor; this can overheat and destroy the motor.
