Possible Causes
Blocked condensate pump, Blocked condensate sump or filter, Kinked or blocked internal drain hose, Faulty condensate pump motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the appliance from the mains before removing panels or accessing internal components. Water and electricity are a dangerous combination.
- 1. Empty and clean the water tank: Remove the water tank and empty it. Rinse it thoroughly and check for debris around the tank connection port.
- 2. Clean lint filters and condenser: Remove the main lint filter and any secondary filters. Clean them under running water and dry completely. If your Zanussi has a removable condenser unit, slide it out and rinse it from back to front to clear lint buildup.
- 3. Access the pump area: On many Zanussi heat pump and condenser dryers, the condensate pump is located at the bottom behind a kick panel or rear panel. Remove the panel (usually a few screws) to access the sump and pump.
- 4. Clear the sump: Carefully remove any visible lint, sludge, or foreign objects from the sump area where water collects. Use a sponge or cloth to remove standing water.
- 5. Check the pump and hoses: Inspect the small pump and attached hoses for blockages or kinks. Detach hoses carefully and flush them with warm water. Ensure they are reattached securely.
- 6. Test the pump (advanced): With the dryer unplugged, check the pump for free rotation by gently turning the impeller. If you have a multimeter and are competent, test the pump coil for continuity. A completely open circuit indicates a failed pump.
- 7. Reassemble and test: Refit all parts, plug the dryer back in, and run a short cycle. If E20 returns, the pump or control board may need replacement.
- 8. Call a technician if unsure: Replacing the condensate pump or diagnosing control board faults should be done by a qualified technician.
