Possible Causes
Pump impeller jammed by lint or debris, Blocked pump inlet, Faulty pump motor, Damaged pump wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer before accessing the pump or removing panels. Wear gloves to avoid cuts on sharp metal edges.
- 1. Access the pump: Remove the lower front kick panel or rear panel (model dependent). Locate the small condensate pump near the sump at the bottom of the dryer.
- 2. Inspect for obstructions: Look into the pump inlet and sump area. Remove any lint clumps, fabric threads, or foreign objects that may be blocking the impeller.
- 3. Free the impeller: Gently rotate the pump impeller with a non-metallic tool (e.g., plastic stick) to ensure it spins freely. Do not force it if it is seized.
- 4. Check hoses: Detach the small hoses connected to the pump and flush them with warm water to remove blockages. Refit them securely to avoid leaks.
- 5. Electrical check (advanced): If you are competent with electrics, test the pump coil for continuity with a multimeter. No continuity indicates a failed pump that must be replaced.
- 6. Reassemble and test: Refit panels, plug in the dryer, and run a short cycle. If E21 persists, the pump or control board drive circuit may be defective.
- 7. Professional repair: If the pump needs replacement or wiring is damaged, contact a Zanussi-authorized technician.
