Possible Causes
Door not fully closed, Obstructed door seal, Faulty door switch, Misaligned door hinge
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Always unplug the dryer before adjusting hinges or accessing the door switch.
- 1. Check for obstructions: Remove any clothing or objects trapped in the door area. Inspect the door gasket for items stuck between the seal and drum.
- 2. Close door firmly: Push the door closed until you hear a clear click. If the door feels loose or does not latch, inspect the latch and catch for wear.
- 3. Inspect hinges: Open the door and gently lift it. Excessive play indicates worn hinges or loose screws. Tighten hinge screws and replace hinges if badly worn.
- 4. Door switch test (basic): With the door open, locate the door switch plunger. Press it in and listen for a click. If there is no click or it feels stuck, the switch may be faulty.
- 5. Door switch replacement (advanced): Remove the top panel and front panel to access the switch. Disconnect the wiring, remove the old switch, and install a genuine Zanussi replacement. Reconnect wiring as per original.
- 6. Test operation: Reassemble, plug in, and start a cycle. If E40 persists, the wiring or control board input may be defective and should be checked by a technician.
