Possible Causes
Dry or worn idler pulley, Worn drum support rollers, Worn rear bearing, Misaligned belt
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect from mains before removing panels.
- 1. Confirm source of noise: Run the dryer briefly with a small load and listen to identify whether the noise comes from the front, rear, or base. Then unplug.
- 2. Inspect belt and idler: Remove the rear panel to access the belt and idler pulley. Check for cracks in the belt and spin the idler by hand. If it squeals or feels rough, replace it.
- 3. Check drum rollers: Access the front of the drum and spin the support rollers. Replace any that squeak or have excessive play.
- 4. Rear bearing (if fitted): Some Zanussi dryers use a rear drum bearing. If squealing comes from the rear center, inspect and replace the bearing kit if worn.
- 5. Do not use oil: Do not lubricate sealed bearings with oil; they are designed to be replaced, not oiled. Oil can attract lint and worsen the problem.
