Possible Causes
Overheating motor thermal cut-out, Worn motor brushes (on some older models), Loose motor connector, Failing motor relay on PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect from mains before accessing the motor or control board.
- 1. Check ventilation and load: Overloading or poor ventilation can cause the motor to overheat and cut out. Reduce load size and ensure good airflow around the dryer.
- 2. Inspect motor area: Remove the rear panel and check for heavy lint build-up around the motor. Clean thoroughly to improve cooling.
- 3. Wiring and connectors: Ensure the motor connector is firmly seated and that wires are not loose or burnt.
- 4. Motor brushes (if fitted): On some older Zanussi dryers with brushed motors, worn brushes can cause intermittent operation. Inspect and replace brushes if they are very short.
- 5. Control board relay: If the motor and wiring are sound, the motor relay on the PCB may be failing and should be checked and replaced by a technician.
