Possible Causes

RTD sensor exposed to direct element heat due to misplacement, RTD sensor shorted, Grease fire or uncontrolled heating, Faulty ADC circuit on main control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: If the smoker is extremely hot or you suspect a grease fire, keep the door closed, unplug the unit, and allow it to cool fully. Do not open the door until flames are out.

After cooling:

  • Inspect the temperature probe location: Ensure the RTD probe is mounted in its original position on the side or back wall and not bent toward the heating element.
  • Clean the probe: Remove heavy grease and carbon buildup from the probe with a non-abrasive pad and mild cleaner.
  • Check wiring: Access the rear of the smoker and inspect the RTD wiring for damage or shorts to the cabinet. Repair any damaged insulation.
  • Reset and test: Unplug the smoker for 5–10 minutes to reset the control. Plug back in and monitor the temperature reading at room temperature. If it still reads extremely high, the sensor or board is faulty.

Repair: Replace the RTD temperature sensor probe first. If the H1/HI condition persists with a new sensor, replace the main control board.
