Possible Causes
Damaged control pilot (CP) wire in output cable, Faulty pilot signal generation circuit on main control board, Corroded or bent pins in J1772/Type 1 connector, Loose internal wiring between main PCB and output cable harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the BougeRV EV charger from the wall outlet or switch off the dedicated breaker before opening any covers. Do not work on the unit while it is energized.
- Step 1 – Power cycle: Unplug the charger from the vehicle and wall power (or turn off breaker) for 5 minutes. Restore power and reconnect to the vehicle. If E01 clears temporarily, the issue may be intermittent wiring or control board logic.
- Step 2 – Inspect vehicle connector: Examine the J1772/Type 1 plug for bent, recessed, or corroded pins, especially the small pilot pin. Clean light oxidation with electrical contact cleaner and a soft brush. Do not use abrasives that remove plating.
- Step 3 – Check output cable: Run your hand along the BougeRV output cable from the charger body to the vehicle plug. Feel for kinks, cuts, or crushed sections that could damage the pilot conductor. If the cable jacket is damaged, discontinue use.
- Step 4 – Internal wiring check (advanced): With power off and cover removed, verify that the output cable harness is firmly seated on the main control PCB and that the pilot wire terminal is tight. Look for discoloration or burn marks around the pilot circuit.
- Step 5 – Replace suspect parts: If the cable is damaged, replace the complete BougeRV J1772 output cable assembly. If wiring and connector are good but E01 persists on multiple vehicles, the BougeRV main control board is likely faulty and should be replaced by a qualified technician.
