Charger displays E02 and refuses to start; vehicle does not lock the connector or begin charging.

Safety warning: Turn off power at the breaker or unplug the BougeRV charger before inspecting the connector or opening the housing.

• Step 1 – Test with another vehicle: If possible, connect the charger to a different EV. If E02 appears on all vehicles, the fault is in the charger, not the car.
• Step 2 – Inspect handle latch: Check that the J1772 handle latch moves freely and fully returns when released. Remove any dirt or debris. A stuck latch can prevent the internal proximity switch from changing state.
• Step 3 – Visual cable inspection: Look for sharp bends or crush points near the handle where the proximity wire commonly breaks. If the cable has visible damage, do not continue using it.
• Step 4 – Continuity check (advanced): With the charger disconnected from power, open the housing and locate the output cable harness on the main PCB. Using a multimeter, verify continuity of the proximity conductor from the board to the handle. Refer to BougeRV wiring colors if available.
• Step 5 – Component replacement: Replace a damaged BougeRV J1772 handle / cable assembly. If the cable and handle test good but E02 persists, the proximity detection circuit on the BougeRV main control board is likely defective and should be replaced by a professional.
