Possible Causes

Moisture inside J1772 connector, Damaged insulation in output cable causing leakage to ground, Faulty internal ground fault current sensor (GFCI module), Contaminated or loose ground connection in charger input wiring

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Danger: Ground faults can be hazardous. If you smell burning, see smoke, or feel tingling when touching metal parts, stop using the charger immediately and shut off power at the breaker.

  • Step 1 – Dry and clean: Disconnect from power and vehicle. Inspect the J1772 connector for moisture, condensation, or dirt. Dry thoroughly with a lint-free cloth and allow the connector to air dry for several hours in a warm, dry location.
  • Step 2 – Inspect cable and housing: Look for cuts, abrasions, or crushed areas on the BougeRV output cable. Check the charger housing for cracks that could allow water ingress.
  • Step 3 – Verify ground connection: For hardwired units, open the input wiring compartment (power off) and confirm the ground conductor is securely fastened to the ground terminal and that the terminal is tight. For plug-in units, inspect the plug blades and ground pin for corrosion or discoloration.
  • Step 4 – Test on a dry circuit: After drying and inspection, restore power and test on a known-good, dry circuit. If E03 appears immediately with no vehicle connected, the internal GFCI / leakage current sensor or main board is likely faulty.
  • Step 5 – Replace components: If cable damage is found, replace the BougeRV output cable assembly. If no external issues are found and E03 persists, have a qualified technician replace the BougeRV GFCI module or main control board.
