Possible Causes
Vehicle drawing more current than charger setting, Faulty current sensor on main control board, Shorted turns or internal fault in output contactor, Loose or overheated connections in output wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power at the breaker before opening the charger. Overcurrent conditions can cause overheating and fire risk.
- Step 1 – Check current setting: If your BougeRV charger has adjustable current, verify the setting is appropriate for the circuit and vehicle. Reduce the current limit and test again.
- Step 2 – Inspect for overheating: After power off and cooling, open the charger and inspect the output contactor, terminal blocks, and wiring for discoloration, melted plastic, or burnt smell.
- Step 3 – Tighten terminals: Tighten all accessible output and internal power terminals using an insulated screwdriver. Loose connections can cause localized heating and false overcurrent detection.
- Step 4 – Test with another vehicle: If possible, test the charger with a different EV. If E05 only occurs with one vehicle, the car's onboard charger may be faulty.
- Step 5 – Replace components: If the contactor shows signs of damage or pitting, replace the BougeRV output contactor. If the contactor and wiring are sound but E05 persists across vehicles, the current sensor or main control board likely needs replacement by a technician.
