Possible Causes
High ambient temperature, Undersized supply cable causing heating, Loose terminal connections in backplate, Continuous operation at maximum current without derating
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Warning: Excessive heat can damage the charger and wiring. If you smell burning or see discoloration, stop using the charger immediately.
- 1. Assess temperature: It is normal for the charger to be warm, but it should not be too hot to keep your hand on for several seconds.
- 2. Improve ventilation: Ensure there is at least the manufacturer-recommended clearance around the charger and that it is not enclosed in a small cabinet.
- 3. Reduce current: Use the Easee app to lower the maximum charging current and observe whether the temperature decreases.
- 4. Inspect wiring (qualified only): With power off, open the backplate and check for loose or discolored terminals. Retighten and replace any overheated components.
- 5. Consider derating or relocation: In very hot climates or confined spaces, permanent derating or relocating the charger to a cooler, shaded area may be necessary.
